Welcome to the Sisterhood, Rebecca Christine Rubin!
Tada!
The displays were your standard AG displays, as shown above. There isn't too much to remark about with those, but seeing all the new items in the store right after release was nice. The pajama cases were very cute and colorful. The Limited Edition display in the middle of the main cases was a great display, and I'm sad I didn't get a good picture of it. Like I said, the Orlando store was cramming as much as they could into as little space as possible, so only a few steps away Truly Me had their pretty displays, which I got no pictures of. The dolls had two separate cases and were scattered amongst the floor. It was clever for as little space as they had. At best, you could only spend a couple hours in AG Orlando without getting bored. The bistro section was so small, and right outside of it was Grace's tiny section. I wish they could've had more space, but you do what you can.
Anyway, onto the reviews and intros of my Sisterhood. To me, my dolls have always been sisters, very much in the sorority sense. They're diverse in personality, but all share the same love for each other. So, without further ado, please welcome the AG Sisterhood of the Midwest!
Meet Samantha Mary Parkington, the very first of the Sisterhood and the de facto leader of the rest. My Nona gave her to me as a birthday present for my 6th birthday in 1999. Her 'age' is 11 years old, and she is very much a princess. She tends to hate getting dirty and enjoys her afternoon tea. She can be kind of stuck up, but she will always come to defend others whenever they need help.
I ended up getting her her Special Day Dress, which is a refreshing dress in her new collection thanks to all the green. It fits her very well considering she's a transitional doll. It's cottony and soft. The lace detailing is very cute and very delicate. The shoes are my favorite, thanks to their rich burgundy color and the fact I was able to squeeze her thick feet into them. The cummerbund bunches up very easily but still looks cute. The headband is confusing with the way it's supposed to lay, so I split it like it was supposed to be a ribbon, which looks pretty good to me. The tights are very thick and were shockingly easy to put on. All in all, I give this set a B+.
This is the one and only Margaret Mildred 'Kit' Kittredge. She was my birthday present when I turned 8/9, somewhere in there. Her age is '10' and she's plucky and resourceful. She's the polar opposite of Samantha. Dirt doesn't bother her and afternoon tea is not her thing. She's not a big fan of dresses, but she'll wear them if she wants. She's the 'youngest' and tends to get into more trouble than the other four. She loves to write and read. She's very helpful and loves to take care of others.
Her new meet dress is possibly my favorite part of her collection. It's so cute and the colors fit Kit so well. The dress is perfect for playtime for youngins. The shoes are soft and the stitches make a cute accent to them. The print is so adorable and it's not too feminine for a tomboy like kit. The belt is sewn on so no worries there. The buttons are cute little plastic flowers and compliment the pattern perfectly. The Peter Pan collar looks so good on Kit, and I'm so pleased with the direction they took her for this. All in all, this set gets an A-. The only problem is not getting a hair accessory, so I used the one from the Reporter Set.
Kirsten Freya Larson was Sister #3, and I purchased her at AG Chicago in 2005. She's soft spoken and is shy at times. She's very proud of her Swedish heritage, and loves Norse Mythology. She's not a big fan of modern looks and largely prefers her simple pioneer dresses. She does not like wearing shoes, because she prefers the feeling of grass under her toes. She may only be '11', but she's definitely a mother hen.
Unfortunately, because she was archived, she didn't get anything new from AG Orlando. Here's hoping for BeForever Kirsten.
Jess Akiko McConnell stole my heart on New Year's Day 2006 and kept it ever since. She's technically addition #5 but since Felicity is currently 'boarding away' (AKA in storage because I have limited space), she's Sister #4 for now. She's a '13 year old' explorer and loves to learn about the world. She's a big anime nerd, and loves Rei Hino/Sailor Mars more than any other character ever. She can be very stubborn and hard headed, but has a soft side that she lets few people see. She prefers the summer to the cold days of winter, and loves the beach. She's also not a dress girl; in fact, she prefers sweatpants over anything else.
The Seaside Fun outfit was an immediate WANT for me as soon as I saw the picture and I knew it would look perfect on Jess. The hoodie is very odd to put on, and messes up doll hair quite a bit. The shorts have a cute embroidered symbols on them, but they're a tight fit on any doll. The blue shoes actually go very well with the outfit and the metal details are well crafted. The soft coral brings out Jess's red highlights nicely. This set gets a B-, mainly because of how tight the shorts are and how tough it is to get on the hoodie.
Here she is, member #8 of the Sisterhood (#5 in this lineup), Rebecca Christine Rubin! She's exactly what I was like when I was 9, and she's the reason why I got so heavily back into AG. Buying her in AG Orlando was such a treat. Rebecca is a bubbly ray of sunshine, and loves to make people laugh. She can be ditzy at times but is also very smart. She loves her historical clothes, but enjoys wearing modern clothes too. History fascinates her and she loves learning about the world in many ways. She proudly practices her Jewish faith and her favorite holiday is Purim. She's got a generous heart and soul and loves to help anyone in any way she can.
The doll is a solid A. Everything about her is so cute and wonderful, from her tweed overcoat to her velvet Mary Janes. If you're gonna purchase a doll soon, get her.
I bought Kit a couple extra outfits and I also bought Grace's Baking Outfit because I enjoy baking and I wanted my dolls to have something cute of their own, so here's three more quick reviews:
Kit's Reporter Dress is such a lovely little outfit! The top and the skirt are attached, but the vest comes unattached which is nice. Peter Pan collars look so good on Kit and I'd love to give whoever said they should use them on her a high five. The barrette is the same one from her old meet, except darker in color. The shoes have no details but that's an advantage since the polka dots are busy. Unfortunately, the shoe's straps are sewn on and are kinda difficult to get on and off. I'd give this outfit a B.
Kit's LE 2015 set, the Chicken Keeping set, is so fun. I named the chicken Herb. The shirt and overalls go well together, and the colors look nice on kit. The shoes are also very cute and sturdy, perfect for chicken duty. The headband doesn't work very well with older Kit's hair so I had to leave it off otherwise she'd look goofy. They also needed a pair of socks to go along with the shoes. It's a good outfit for play though, so therefore it gets a B-.
Grace's Baking Outfit is a very good purchase indeed. The cottony material is perfect for baking and making messes. The cupcake print is thankfully right side up, unlike on the website. The apron is a little odd to put on but it doesn't mess up hair as badly as the Seaside Fun Outfit. The shoes are a little plain, but hey, this is for kitchen work and no one pays attention to the shoes in a kitchen. The headband is nice and elasticy for easy hairstyling. This a very good set for youngins, especially for ones that like to play. This set gets an A.
That's basically it for now. I'll do a pajama set review soon, along with holiday gear at some point. Within the next couple months, we'll be seeing more of Maryellen Larkin's world and expect some opinions on that. Some Ever After High reviews will be coming too at some point.
Til next time!
